Hey everyone. My name is Brian Bull. I am a left-handed pitcher in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. I am 23 years old and this is my first full season in professional baseball. I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2006 and signed as a free agent. Last summer I played in the New York Penn league for the Auburn Doubleday’s.

Reporting/Day 1:

I decided to drive down with my buddy Eric Eymann, who plays in the Reds organization. It was a 24hour drive (would have been faster but the weather was kind of bad) that we split into three days. The first day we went to Nashville, TN and the next day we stopped in Valdosta, GA. We knew some people there that let us stay for free so it made the trip a lot cheaper for us.

I was excited about the trip because it is my first spring training and I wanted to see all the guys from the year before. Once I arrived I was able to meet up with a some of them and catch up on what happened during everyone’s off seasons. I tried to get a good nights rest because I knew it was going to be a long next day.

Physicals were at 6:45 the next morning which was tough to get up for since I had not gotten a whole lot of sleep the days before. Once we were there we had everything checked out to make sure we were healthy and no problems. After that we then headed down to the facilities to unpack our stuff and get ready for our first workout. It’s kind of like Christmas right when you get there you get all your new gear for the season.

As of now its just the pitchers there, the position players won’t report for a couple more days. Meetings were the first things on the agenda. We were introduced to all the coaches and people that work in the offices at the building. Once that was done we went out to get some stretching, running, PFP’s, and bullpens in. It was nice to finally be outside considering Nebraska (where I’m from) had about a foot of snow there when I left.

The big event for me today was just throwing my bullpen. My main goal that day was just keep the ball low in the zone and throw strikes. For the most part I was able to do that, so I had a positive attitude about it. We finished around 4 that afternoon and then I came back to crash at the hotel. There are not many places to eat around the hotel so my roommate and I just walked over to Outback for something to eat and then I went to bed early, we had to get up at 6:30 to catch the bus to the field the next morning. Well, that’s about all I have for now. Take care and I’ll see you later.
