Top Prospect
Alert
The Los Angeles Dodgers have always been
noted for their international scouting. In this decade, they have signed
such names as Ismael Valdes, Hideo Nomo, and Chan-Ho Park to name a few.
Now, the Dodgers have uncovered probably the best of the group in
Chin-Feng Chen from Yong-Kang, Taiwan. The 21 year old Chen is the first
native of Taiwan to play in the minor leagues in over two decades and will
become the first to ever reach the majors.
When he digs in at the plate, Chen appears to be anything but an
intimidating force, in that he doesn't look like your classic sluggers do.
However, in his first season for San Bernadino of the California League,
Chen became the first player ever in that league to reach the 30/30 mark
compiling a .316 average in 510 At-bats, while picking up 98 runs
scored,161 hits,22 Doubles,10 Triples 31 HR's,123 RBI,75 BB's and 31 SB's.
He possesses the speed to be a leadoff hitter, yet still has the power to
hit in the middle of the order, similar to someone like Corey Patterson in
the way you get this mixed package of talent.
The Dodgers also have had a long history of "Rookie of the Year" award
winners and with someone like Chin-Feng Chen in the farm system, it's a
good bet that this bright star has the chance to continue in this
tradition.
