Lakers star forward Elgin Baylor missed parts of the 1961-1962 season in order to fulfill his commitment to the military. When Baylor was in the lineup he provided an added offensive force that powered the Lakers through the Western Conference. In the NBA Finals the Lakers ran into the Celtics dynasty, and were defeated in seven games. Throughout his career Baylor was named to 11 NBA All-Star teams and finished with over 23,000 points.
