BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME & THE NAME OF THE PLAYER(S) IN YOUR PICTURE.
One of the few bright spots in an otherwise barren dry farm system, 24 year old third baseman Kory Casto is making a name for himself in the Washington Nationals organization.
For the second consecutive season, Casto was named the Nationals Minor League Player of the Year.
At Double-A Harrisburg, Kasto batted .272 with 20 homeruns, and 88 rbi's. He finished second in the Eastern League in runs scored with 84 and tied for the league lead in walks with 81.
Last year at High-A Potomac batted .290 with 22 homeruns and 90 rbi's.
Expect Casto, the then Montreal Expos third round pick in the 2003 draft, to begin the season in Triple-A and have a chance to be a role player in the majors by seasons end.
With Cole Hamels and Scott Mathieson getting most of the publicity in 2006, it would be very easy to overlook the performance of Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect J.A. Happ.
The 23 year old 6'5" southpaw out of Northwestern had a breakout 2006.
Across three levels, High-A, Double-A, & a cup of coffee in Triple-A, Happ went 10-9 with a 2.69 ERA, and 162 strikeouts in 160.2 innings of work.
Happ was his best at Double-A Reading where he went 6-2 with 2.65 ERA in 74.2 innings. For his minor league career, Happ has an ERA of 2.49.
Expect the third round pick in the 2004 draft to begin the season in Triple-A in 2007 and be in Philadelphia by the end of the year.
High expectations are nothing new to Clayton Kershaw. His name mentioned among the top three high school players in the country his senior year in high school, Kershaw was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 7th overall pick in the 2006 draft.
Among his high school accolades was earning the national Gatorade Player of the Year award, and striking out every batter he faced during a high school game. Kershaw also stared for the 2005 USA Junior National team.
So how did he handle his pro debut, just as he's handled everything to this point, with success.
Kershaw a 6'3" lefty posted a 2-0 record with a 1.95 ERA while striking out 54 batters and walking just 5 in 37 Gulf Coast League innings.
Expect the Kershaw to begin the 2007 season as 19 year old with the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League.
2006 proved to be a solid sophomore season for Milwaukee Brewers prospect Lorenzo Cain. The 20 year old outfielder batted .307 with 6 home runs, 60 rbi's, and 34 stolen bases for the Sally League West Virginia Power.
His .307 average was third in the South Atlantic League. He also finished fourth in the league in doubles with 34, and runs scored with 91.
Cain, who was the Brewers 17th round pick out of Tallahassee Community College in 2004, should start the year at High-A Brevard County in 2007.
Since being drafted out of Winthrop University with the Minnesota Twins second round pick in the 2005 draft, Kevin Slowey has made a rapid asscent up organizational ladder.
In 2005 he was dominant in the Midwest League at Beloit posting a 2.24 ERA with 69 strikeouts in 64.1 innings.
In 2006 Slowey was even better. Combined between Single-A Fort Myers and Double-A New Britain, Slowey was 8-5 with a 1.88 ERA to go along with 151 strikeouts and just 22 walks in 148.2 innings of work. Opponents batted just .188 on the season against him.
His best work came at Fort Myers where he posted a 1.01 ERA in 14 starts prior to his promotion.
Slowey also landed a spot on the USA Olympic Qualifying Team in 2006.
Expect the 22 year old Slowey to begin the year in Triple-A in 2007 and be likely to be in Minnesota by the end of the season.
He won 19 games including three playoff victories, batted .405 as a hitter in Triple-A, was the winning pitcher in the Triple-A Championship game, and won his last 13 consecutive decisions.
All in all 2006 was a dream season for Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Micah Owings.
The D-Backs third round pick in the 2005 draft had one heck of a first full season as a pro.
In the regular season, combined between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Tucson, Owings was 16-2 with a 3.33 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 162 innings of work.
While he was a perfect 10-0 in Triple-A, Owings did get hit with opposing hitters batting .291 against him.
Expect Owings to start the season in Tucson once again, however with a successful spring training, he has an outside chance of being on the Diamondbacks roster come April.
Erik Lis got a nice jump start in his first season as a pro.
The ninth round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins out of the University of Evansville led the prospect heavy Midwest League with a .326 batting average.
Prior to breaking his hand late in the season, Lis clearly shined. In addition to the batting average, Lis finished second in the league with 37 doubles while driving in 70 runs.
Look for Lis to get a shot in High-A to begin the 2007 season, with a promotion to Double-A likely by the end of the season.

While not quite yet a household name, Carlos Gomez has worked his way on to the prospect radar.
Always blessed with speed, Gomez is begining to develop a bit of power as well and has a breakout year for the New York Mets Double-A club in Binghamton.
As one of the Eastern League's youngest players at age 20, Gomez batted .281 with 7 home runs, 48 rbi's, a career high 24 doubles, and stole 49 bases.
Gomez has risen a level each year since his pro debut in 2004. Expect the Dominican native to begin the 2007 season in Triple-A, and for Gomez to have a shot at a spot on the Mets roster sometime during the 2008 season.

Another product of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays talent filled 2004 draft, Jacob McGee appears to be a southpaw with a great deal of success ahead of him.
In 2006 for Southwest Michigan, McGee went 7-9 with a 2.96 ERA and a Midwest League leading 171 strikeouts in 134 innings of work.
McGee, who just turned 20 was drafted out of a California high school, and has advanced a level each year since turning pro.
Expect that trend to continue as McGee should expect to start the year at High-A Visalia and with success should be receive a promotion to Double-A Montgomery by year's end.
