Eric Munson -- By Scott McCreary

Eric Munson, C. Detroit Tigers
Height 6-3   Weight 220  Bats Left  Throws Right
Birth date 10-3-77  San Diego, Calif.

Eric Munson was selected in the first round (3rd overall) of the June 1999 draft by the Detroit Tigers.  He played for USC in college.  He was rated as the best pure hitter, best power hitter, second best arm strength and closest to the majors of all college players in the 1999 draft.

Eric has taken over the Whitecaps. He is the team leader in homeruns despite only playing in Western Michigan since July.  He has led the Whitecaps from a last place finish in the first half of the season to first place so far through the second half. With the Tigers having another bad year watch for a possible call up of Eric in September after the Whitecaps' season ends, or maybe sooner.  He will probably spend part of next season at either Jacksonville or Toledo as the Tigers have an All-Star catcher in Brad Asmus and a decent backup in Bill Hassleman, but watch for Eric to try to make the Majors as Gabe Kapler did this season.

Also, if you want to read about what Eric was going through on draft day, check out this article. It is awesome...
