Prospect Alert - Samone Peters
Samone Peters: Your classic high risk, high reward type of prospect.
Peters is a huge 6-foot-7, 260 pound, 21-year-old slugger who possesses
possibility some of the best raw power upside of anyone in the Cincinnati
Reds system. But he also has piled up strikeouts at a huge rate which
could lead to his downfall making it to the majors.
This season at
Single-A Clinton in the Midwest League, Peters has hit 20 homers but has
struck out a total of 192 times with only 32 walks in 439 at-bats,
resluting in just a .207 average. Last season was similar for Peters,
while spending part of the season at Clinton (.221, 15 HR, 46 RBI, 13 2B,
1 3B, 32 R, 17 BB, and 131 SO in 290 AB) and at Billings (.225, 9 HR, 23
RBI, 3 2B, 13 R, 5 BB, and 57 SO 111 AB). He would rate out as a
average left fielder.
To have a future in the Reds plans, Peters
needs to quickly improve his strikeout number drastically over the next
year. If he can do this, he could be a force, if not, he may never find
success in the upper minors.
