With Jim Stone, Ohio State University, NCAA Final Four The slide attack is changing volleyball from a vertical game to a horizontal game. In the Slide, the hitter jumps off of one foot and travels laterally along the net to a specified zone before striking the ball. This forces the blockers to move their feet and reach to block the attack, rather than jumping straight up to block the attack. This videotape covers three areas of the slide attack: mechanics, progressive drills, and attacking options, including using the slide off serve receive and in transition. Yet, the skill of attacking is a very complex set of movements that take thousands of repetitions to execute with real power. This video thoroughly reviews the fundamentals of the attack. The approach is dissected and demonstrated for right- and left-handed players. Throughout the video, emphasis is placed on teaching the attack as a whole movement, while players focus on correcting errors in specific parts of the movement. The second half of the video is devoted to the principles of attacking from particular positions. Line shots and sharp angle shots are demonstrated and their use explained.
