Shane Funk

Shane Funk is a 20 year old pitcher in the Texas Rangers organization. Funk was drafted in the 4th round of the 2005 draft after a storied high school career that included an appearance in the Aflac All-America game. 2007 will mark Funk's second full season as a pro.

Well its been a little while since I've wrote about what's going on with me, so I guess I'll fill everyone in. Spring Training is going well so far, just all the different things going on is mind blowing.

I've met tons of the big leaguers so far. I got to listen to Kevin Millwood talk about pitching, and bumped into Eric Gagne and Sammy Sosa....LITERALLY! I ran into Sosa in the training room as I was getting some sunscreen and Gagne was walking in the same hallway as me and we rubbed shoulders, pretty cool stuff.

Not to mention we share the same weight room as all the Major League guys so thats an incentive to workout in itself, just for the slim chance you might bench press next to Hank Blalock or one of the other stars from the big side.

On the 14th games started. So far they have been going pretty good for both me and the organization. We seem to be winning the majority of our games so that's always a good thing. As you would guess, it also keeps the higher ups happy and makes Pre-Game Training a LOT easier.

As for me I have made 2 appearances both out of the pen and for an inning a piece. The first outing was against the Royals and went real smoothly 3 up 3 down with a strikeout. The second outing was also against the Royals and went about the same, I got 3 outs on 11 pitches with a walk.

Yesterday was our first big cut day. Its always a sad thing to see happen and it usually shocks you the first time you see 10-15 people you know or have seen around pack up and get shipped out of the clubhouse for the last time. However you've just gotta keep your head up and hope that when your time comes you've done as much in baseball as you physically can.
