Journal Entry 6-1-2005
Hi everyone,
I'm not doing such a good job of staying current with these entries but I'll get better. Hope everyone is doing ok and everybody had a happy Memorial Day.
For me Memorial Day is very special because both of my grandfathers were part of the wars. One being in World War II and the other participating in the Vietnam war.
This particular Memorial Day was a little different though since my father Sergeant First Class Jeff Nolen is stationed in Baghdad, Iraq and has been there for over 7 months. He is doing well and is very ready to come home and catch a couple of baseball games and relax for awhile.
I just wanted to add that bit and thank him and all the men and women who have fought for our county and our freedom. These people are the reason why I get to play a game for a living and I just wanted to let them know how much I appreciated what they do. Thank you.
Alright, on to a little baseball. Lately we, The Peoria Chiefs have had a good run at things. Finally closing in on that .500 mark and actually reaching it after we won 4 straight game, making it our longest winning streak of the year.
We took 3 of 4 from The Clinton Lumberkings, the top team in our league as of right now. So that gave us a great boost in the confidence department and help us prove to ourselves we are gonna make some noise in this league and do some damage.
Once again our starters are doing a tremendous job on the mound giving us great starts and going deep into the ball game. This is a little bit of a heaven and hell scenario for a reliever being as it's great to watch a teammate succeed but doesn't leave much room for you to get work. Yet, we are winning games and that's all that matters.
From a personal standpoint, I had my worst outing of the year earlier last week. I gave up 4 runs in one inning, but only allowed 2 hits.
My control has been a little haywire lately which is very frustrating and a new challenge for me. I seem to find it sometimes and roll with it, then a little switch turns on and poof the plate is about 2 inches wide. So, I'm gonna keep plugging away and find a good groove and turn this control thing around.
Later in the week I did get a chance to redeem myself by pitching well in 2 games. I had a scoreless inning against South West Michigan and later picked up a late inning win against Clinton, which brought my record to 4-2.
I'm happy with the way things are going with our team and I love being around these guys. I believe things are turning around for us and our time is coming. So, keep reading, thanks again.
Walt
